  • Hi Leo

Great Site, I havent came across a more informative and dedicated m3 CSL site. Its fantastic and thank you so much for your effort.

Having just bought a CSL myself I am still testing out its potential but I'm so amazed by its handling charactersticand its willingness to turn into corner.

Just want to let you know the number of CSL in HK, I know BMW HK officially imported 6 CSL and all were sold before they were landed and all came with Air-con (a must in HK), PDC (again a must consider the tight car parks we have here), CD player and head lamp washer. All 6 are silver grey and they cost 120,000 Euro back then!!!! (yes 120,000 Euro incl gov't registration tax)

There are also another 3-4 private imports (probably from UK or Japan) but I am not sure about the spec.

    Cheers

  • hi leo - nice car, nice site.

just one correction - the recall you refer to number 611103 referring to the recode the light switch centre - this applies only to convertible cars built march to july 2003. never seen a convertible csl and all csl's built after july 03 i think! i found this out by asking the dealer i am about to buy my csl from if they'd done that recall - much to my embarrasment!!!

  • When I bought mine in France (left-hand drive) I was told by the dealer that 60 were allocated to France, not 6 as you say. I would consider this source reliable.

Someone already asked how do you know your cars' production number?

Would you have the torque/power/revs graph available by any chance? If you do please put it on your site. It would make an interesting comparaison with other engines.

    Great site! Thank you.

One question, how did you get the actual Build No of the car. I asked BMW UK and when they looked into it, all they could tell me was that it was built in week 49/2003 making it number 390-411 or something. You any idea how I can get this number?

  • Hi Leo,
thanks for all the details of the CSL. I purchased a used one in May 2005 and visited often the tracks in Germany (Hockenheim, Sachsenring and Nordschleife) as well as in France and Netherlands. The highest is to change the Cup-tires against the Slicks ! With that you can compensate 100 HP and more - M5-V10 and M6-V10 have no chance. The next modification was a bigger break from DS on the front axle (380 mm, 8 pistons) - terrible expensive but it works ! All other components are origin.
What about tzhe difference in the production numbers of the CSL ? Built 1389 but only 1095 listed in your country-list - how that ?
Do you know about the CSL-driver-training of the M-Drivers-Club on the Nordschleife ? Maybe see you some time ! Regards Rudi

  • Hey Leo

Tom here. Good to see my DIY posted up. Just to correct John below, New Zealand was allocated 10 CSLs officially back in late 2003 - all were sold pretty much straight away (initial allocation was 6 but that was increased to 10 due to demand.) One of the last ones to arrive unfortunately wasn't picked up and ended up sitting in a showroom for a good 3 months+ before it was sold. I am aware of 2 other private imports into the country - one from South Africa and another from Germany through BMW NZ directly - this latter one is the one on www.trademe.co.nz at the moment. It was a BMW Driver Training car that was crashed by an instructor who used it outside driver training - no prizes here for what happened to the instructor shortly after he crashed the CSL.

    PS - Great website - I frequent roadfly.com quite often under "NZ_M3"

very excited, just picked uo my black m3 csl. I have a lot of fun ahead of me. I have learnt that there are 12 M3 csls in New Zealand, and two have been crashed. Look at www.trademe.co.nz under csl and see one of the damaged ones for sale. [sept 2006] Fantastic site, will spend some time now and take it all in, Cheers John.

Congratulations on a superb example csl.I too have one, mine is finished in grey and is virtually the same spec as yours.Ive been toying with the idea of a track day, would you recomend splashing out on a set of cup tyres? Like yourself i traded a standard m3 for the csl,i often say driving the csl in normal trim is like the m3 in sport mode, but then you still have the sport button for that extra special kick.Great site will visit again cheers.

  • Hi Leo,
Congratulations with your CSL. It's a beautiful car. I see you get to use it for some more committed and secure driving on track. Ever considered Spa Francorchamps? Myself I recently upgraded as well by replacing my 996 Carrera for a 996 Turbo: a true Autobahn missile!

  • Leo,

Great site for a great car. Wish we had them here in the US.

It seems as though BMW is selling some parts without the VIN. I just bought the CSL swaybars for my M3. The front is tubular instead of solid, so it's lighter and thicker. The parts guy checked on the shocks for instance and he could not order them, but he knew he could order the swaybars. I haven't attempted to order anything else.

    Enjoy your car,

    Steve
